Boat insurance premiums vary greatly between companies, so it pays to shop around. While shopping, there are several specific coverages that need to be identical in order to compare companies on a true apples-to-apples basis.
Does the policy have a lay up period? A layup is a period of time that the boat is kept out of the water in storage- whether it's at a marina or in your driveway. Generally, the shorter the layup, the higher the premiums. Be sure to specify the same layup for each quote.
Deductibles are usually listed as a percentage of the hull value(the amount you are insuring the boat for). For example: $25,000 boat x 2% deductible = $500 deductible.
Does the policy include coverage for accidental discharge of fuel and oil. An EPA cleanup is not cheap, so get this coverage if available.
